Masias

The Catalan “masia” (farmhouse) is a type of house that was part of the "mas" and was mainly a farming business, but also agriculture.

 Depending on the time, activity or needs we can find two types of “masias”. The more horizontal (medieval times) or the vertical,which began to appear in the 13th century.

 Later they began to build “masias” (country houses) of two bodies until the 18th century,when they consolidated the construction model of three bodies and a central room adding the typical Catalan arches

There are about 6000 Masias in Catalonia.
